The rise of PSV talent Xavi Simons continues in the Eredivisie market value update. The top scorer of the past season is one of the biggest winners with a plus of 10 million euros and jumps into the top 3 of the most valuable professionals in the Dutch upper house. But the 20-year-old also faces a dilemma: Where does he see the best opportunities to continue his development? Continue in Eindhoven or back in Paris?

Simons joined PSV from PSG on a free transfer last summer, but the French have secured a buyback option. After 34 scorers in 48 games, the Parisians should not be averse to bringing back the offensive talent. The clause is said to be a “bargain”: PSG would only have to transfer 6 million euros, of which 2 million euros would go to Simons himself. However: The player must give his consent. At PSG, Simons would have secured the Champions League, with PSV he would first have to successfully compete in the playoffs. But Premier League clubs like Man United or Arsenal and BVB and RB Leipzig should also show interest in Simons.

In the market value ranking, Simons could still reach a milestone by remaining in Eindhoven, but he has not yet made it to the top. There, Ajax defender Jurrien Timber (22), who is also heavily courted, is enthroned there with 42 million euros, ahead of teammate Mohammed Kudus (22), who, like Simons, has increased by 10 million to 40 million euros. After a season without a title, however, things are going downhill for the record champions in terms of squad value.

For Ajax it goes down from 279.7 million to 273.6 million euros. From the top 10 of the biggest losers of the update, seven players come from the ranks of Amsterdam: Florian Grillitsch (27; -1.5 to 6 million euros), Owen Wijndal (23; -2 to 8 million euros) , Davy Klaassen (30; -2 to €10m), Kenneth Taylor (21), Steven Berghuis (31; both -2 to €12m) and Steven Bergwijn (25; -2 to €22m). Calvin Bassey (23; 15m euros), who, like Eindhoven’s Anwar El Ghazi (28; 5m euros), receives the biggest loss of 3m euros.

Feyenoord close in on Ajax – Gimenez biggest market value winner in Eredivisie

Eredivisie champion Feyenoord is moving closer to Ajax, with a total increase of EUR 58.4 million to EUR 241.4 million. The Rotterdam team displace PSV (+4.2 to 205.8 million euros) from second place in the squad value ranking. With striker Santiago Gimenez (22; 25m euros), who posted a plus of 16m euros, Feyenoord not only has the biggest winner in the ranks, but also a total of seven players in the top 10: Mats Wieffer (23; + 8 to €15m), Lutsharel Geertruida (22; +7 to €25m), Orkun Kökcü (22; +5 to €35m), David Hancko (25; +5 to €25m), Sebastian Szymanski (24; +4 to €18m) and Igor Paixão (22; +4 to €10m).

The biggest German winner also wears the Feyenoord jersey. Goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther (27) doubles his market value and is now valued at 2 million euros – career high. Twente goalkeeper colleague Lars Unnerstall (32; +700,000 to EUR 3.2m), Can Bozdogan (22; +500,000 to EUR 4.5m) from FC Utrecht and Heerenveen’s Mats Köhlert (25; +300,000 to EUR 4.5m) can also increase 1.5 million euros).

For five of the 13 Germany legionnaires, however, there is a minus: In addition to Groningen’s Florian Krüger (24: -300,000 to 900,000 euros), Vitesse keeper Markus Schubert (25; -200,000 to 400,000 euros), Emmen goalkeeper Eric Oelschlägel (27; -100,000 to 400,000 euros) and Maxime Awoudja (25; -25,000 to 350,000 euros) from Excelsior Rotterdam, especially ex-DFB player Amin Younes (29; -500,000 to 1 million euros), who recently repeated and long in Utrecht had to pass injured.
