Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has pledged to “intensify” his country’s diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine. He did this on Tuesday in his speech to the United Nations General Assembly.
“Since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war, we have tried to keep our Russian and Ukrainian friends around the table, with the idea that there will be no winners from the war, but also no losers in case of peace,” Erdogan said .
Furthermore, the Turkish president thanked the international community for its assistance in the aftermath of the earthquake that hit his country and Syria. At the international level, the president also aims for more multilateral cooperation. “The world is bigger than five and a fairer world is possible,” he said, referring to the five permanent members of the UN Security Council.
Palestinians and Nagorno-Karabakh
He also pledged to continue supporting the Palestinian cause and the Palestinians “in their struggle for their legitimate rights under international law.” Finally, the Turkish president also reaffirmed support for Azerbaijan in the conflict with Armenia over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region. Baku launched a military operation in the ethnic Armenian enclave earlier in the day.
