After the storm, some calm. If last week ended with CKD protesting to the PSOE due to the lack of progress in the investiture negotiations and charging against the minister and negotiator Maria Jesus Montero, this weekend things have moved. The Republicans admitted this Monday that they have “intensified contacts” with the socialistsalthough they have clarified that they continue to see “far” the agreement.

Esquerra places three conditions on Sánchez’s investiture and right now the ones that show signs of being most advanced are those of the amnesty and the revival of the dialogue table. In fact, the party spokesperson, Raquel Sanshas evaluated Saturday’s statement “positively” Pedro Sanchez about this amnesty. ERC insists that the exoneration of all the causes of the ‘procés’ must be “total” – reaching all those investigated – and not partial, but it knows that the step taken by the President of the Government was significant.

The negotiation folder that has ended up being the most complicated between ERC and the PSOE It is the third and last, which has nothing to do with the ‘procés’ but with day-to-day management: the transfer of Rodalies and the improvement of financing. Regarding trains, the problem is the same as always. Oriol Junqueras’ party wants a “comprehensive” transfer of powers that the socialists are not willing to give.

Regarding financing, the problem is that ERC wants a substantial improvement of resources that the Generalitat receives that it considers that the Government is not willing to give. Hence also the fact that last week he put the Minister of Finance in his sights. One of the avenues that can be explored would be a forgiveness of the debt that Catalonia has through the FLA (Autonomous Liquidity Fund). Although Esquerra has said that this issue has not been thoroughly addressed – “There is no firm proposal,” said Sans -, he has warned that this condonation would be a “patch” that would not solve the “structural” problem: the fiscal deficit of 22,000 million a year that the Generalitat denounces.

Regardless of how the negotiation progresses, the Republicans try to get away of the pressure exerted by the PSOE to unravel an agreement. Sans has warned that his party would not understand that there was a “rush” on the part of the socialists and, above all, that they forced a plenary session without a “closed agreement”. “We need specifics,” said the spokesperson.

Leonor’s absence from the event

Aside from the conversations with the PSOE, Esquerra formally announced this Monday that they will not send any representative to the act of swearing in the Constitution of Princess Leonor. It could practically be taken for granted, since they cut off relations with the Royal House years ago. For example, their representatives are also not going to audiences with the King when he opens consultations for the investiture.

Sans has argued that his party cannot contribute to the “paraphernalia” that it only intends to “shield a monarchy that no one has chosen.” “It is a corrupt monarchy and we want to reaffirm our republican principles“, concluded the party spokesperson.
