ERC accuses Junts of making the “extreme right” speech with immigration

The discrepancies between ERC and Junts have always gone beyond how to face the ‘procés’ and this Monday it was seen again with the matter of immigration. Republicans have accused the post-convergents of having a discourse on this topic that is “simplistic” and “more typical of ultras and the extreme right“In fact, they have accused the party of Carles Puigdemont to “whitewash” these right-wing formations.

The origin of the controversy lies in last week when several mayors of Junts in the Maresme region they jointly defended the expulsion from Spain of foreign multiple repeat offenders. A position that has the explicit support of the management, which the secretary general expressed, Jordi Turull. Given this statement, ERC regretted this Monday that it is “singling out migrants”, something that “favors hate speech”.

Republicans do not deny that there is a problem with multiple repeat offenders, but they consider that Junts’ approach is “very irresponsible.” The ERC spokesperson, Raquel Sans, has said that discourses such as post-convergence “dehumanize migrants and are a danger.” For the party of Oriol Junqueras The solution is to “combat social inequalities” and “increase investments in education.”

The background to this discrepancy is the increasing difference with which Republicans and post-convergents approach the issues. And this is one of them: yes Together increasingly committed to delving into security -and linking it to immigration-, CKD Mark all possible distances towards the opposite direction. For Republicans, if there is a problem of multiple recidivism, it does not go through the situation of migrants.

Our concern is multiple recidivism, not where the criminals were born

Raquel Sans

ERC spokesperson

Asked what recipes are proposed by ERC, Sans referred to the reform of the Penal Code of 2022, which established that petty thefts by repeat offenders could be punished with up to 18 months in prison. It is a reform that included Esquerra’s votes. “Our concern is multiple recidivism, not where the criminals were born,” said the spokesperson.

The Government is in full search of partners to approve the 2024 budgets and this Monday ERC has expressed its displeasure at the fact that the PSC is pushing to unravel the Hard Rock leisure complex in exchange for support for the accounts. To the Republicans it seems an extemporaneous condition in a Catalonia hit by drought or by the poor results of the PISA tests. “Making Hard Rock a requirement is food for thought,” Sans lamented.

Esquerra insists that the macrocomplex will be built if all the requirements are met, including the environmental one, so it is a “administrative issue” and not political. This dart at the PSC is of moderate scope because, probably, the socialists will be decisive so that there are new Government accounts in 2024. However, the Republicans insist that there are also open negotiations with Junts, the Comuns and the CUP.
