Erasmus shooter Fouad L. had to leave his rented house, owing several thousand euros | Domestic

Shootings RotterdamFouad L. had not paid rent for a few months and was about to be evicted by the housing association. A month before the fatal tragedy, in which three people were shot dead on Thursday, the judge ruled that the lease could be terminated.

The judgment of the Rotterdam court shows that Fouad L. had a debt of 3,097.74 euros. This payment arrears were sufficient reason for the judge to terminate the Rotterdam resident’s lease. L. was given two weeks to vacate his home on Heiman Dullaertplein and hand in the keys.

Because he was not present at the trial, it is not clear when exactly he was told when he had to leave his home. This would have to be done via a bailiff and only from that moment does the 14-day period begin to run. The sentencing was on August 30, so it stands to reason that he got the bad news a few weeks before the shooting. It is not clear whether that news played a role in the shooting.

Half-naked in the backyard

Housing association Woonbron does not want to respond to media questions for privacy reasons. It is therefore not clear whether the landlord was concerned about Fouad L. Discussions with local residents and documents from the Public Prosecution Service previously showed that he caused quite a bit of nuisance. Over the past five years, neighbors occasionally saw him standing half-naked in the backyard. Screaming. Laughing loudly. It was filthy in his ground floor apartment, animal feces were scattered throughout the living room.

The house was in “unlivable condition,” officers wrote in August 2021. They visited at the time after reports from neighbors that he was abusing animals. They had filmed him torturing one of his rabbits in the backyard. He hurled it against a tree, kicked it and threw a brick in his direction. The animal was so injured that a vet had to put it to sleep. L. was convicted of animal abuse.

The person who raised the alarm most about animal suffering was his neighbor Marlous. She and her 14-year-old daughter were both shot and killed on Thursday. Fouad L. is also said to have set his own house on fire and gone to Erasmus MC. There, the medical student shot and killed teacher Jurgen Damen in a classroom.
