An adjustment of the tournament premium for the women’s national team to that of the men’s selection is currently not planned by the German Football Association.
“We’re looking forward to the Women’s European Championships and we have big plans there too,” said DFB director Oliver Bierhoff. “We negotiated a bonus there too, which is a record, but doesn’t come close to what the men get.” The reason given by the DFB director was the different income and sales in women’s and men’s tournaments.
Each player selected by national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg would receive €60,000 if they won the finals in England from July 6th to 31st. At the EM 2017, the association would have paid out 37,500 euros per player. For winning the 2014 World Cup, Manuel Neuer and his colleagues received what was then a record bonus of 300,000 euros per player. No bonus has yet been negotiated for this year’s World Cup in Qatar. The US soccer players had recently fought for equal treatment in terms of bonuses and salaries.
Same support staff and equipment
Bierhoff announced that the association would deal with the issue again. In the round of negotiations for the EM bonuses, there were “expectations” to go but “not there at all”. The ex-national player pointed out that the conditions for the women’s selection have now been adjusted.
“We already started that they have the same support staff, the same equipment,” said Bierhoff. “We do everything we can to ensure that they have the same conditions, but we also believe that by increasing the bonuses we have shown that we want to promote women’s football.” The women’s selection will, for example, also prepare for the finals at DFB partner adidas in Herzogenaurach.
