Environmentally friendly commemorative wreaths for the fallen WW I
In this way, the symbolism is immediately woven into the object. The visitor who buys such a wreath is given a biodegradable card to write a message on.
The memorial wreath is an example of sustainable commemoration. Geert Bekaert, director of CWGC in Central and Southern Europe explains: “It is an environmentally friendly option, as it is made locally and is 100 percent biodegradable. When we have to remove them from the cemetery after a while, she goes to our own compost farm just outside Ypres, and later feeds the flower borders in our cemeteries again.”
Proceeds from the sale will go to the CWGC Foundation. With educational projects they ensure that young people will not forget the fallen during the world wars. “After the wreath becomes one with the ground again, a long-lasting effect remains in the form of educational projects,” says Geert Bekaert.
