Environmental park Assen closed earlier due to heat

The Environmental Park in Assen will close its doors earlier on Thursday and Friday due to the predicted heat. The dump site on Van Doornestraat will close at 12 noon, instead of 5 p.m.

The park does open at the usual time, which is 09:00. The park will be open again according to normal times from Saturday, the municipality reports.

The National Heat Plan will apply throughout the Netherlands from Wednesday due to the high risk of a heat wave. There is also a good chance in Drenthe, said RTV Drenthe weatherman Gert Voerman yesterday. The heat plan is likely to remain active until after the weekend.

The National Heat Plan, which was also put into effect for three days in mid-July, aims to inform organisations, professionals and people in care about the expected heat. In this way they can offer support to vulnerable groups such as the elderly and small children. They can experience health problems due to the heat, such as fatigue, headaches, concentration problems, dehydration and heat stroke.

Not only the largest vulnerable group, the over-75s, are being warned to pay attention. Everyone, also in good health, should take the heat into account, according to the RIVM. In general, the institute recommends that you drink plenty of fluids in the coming week, do not move too much during the hottest hours of the day and keep your house and head cool with the help of curtains, a fan or air conditioning.
