Tesla has to fear for the water supply of its car factory. Environmentalists have complained about it. If they win, the water association WSE wants to terminate the car manufacturer’s supply contract.
On February 11, the administrative court in Frankfurt (Oder) wants to negotiate the approval of the Eggersdorf waterworks. The State Environment Agency granted it in 2020 without an environmental audit.
“No water, no Tesla!” warns WSE boss André Bähler. Without the four million cubic meters from Eggersdorf, the drinking water supply for 170,000 people would also be at risk. The basis for the contract with Tesla is then missing.
Environment Minister Axel Vogel (65, Greens) dismissed yesterday: “We do not see Tesla’s supply as endangered.” The WSE pumps far less water than it is allowed to. The conservationists’ lawsuit is only directed against the increase in production by 1.2 million cubic meters. His position will win.
