Ensor Year opens with an exhibition dedicated to still lifes by…

Parallel to Ensor’s still lifes, there are also still lifes by other Belgian artists between 1830 and 1930 in Mu.ZEE. Special attention is also paid to forgotten female painters. “Women in the 19th century could not go to the academy. They received no study in figure drawing and anatomy. They were condemned to the genre of the still life,” explains curator Bart Verschaffel.

The exhibition, with works from national and international museums as well as from private collections, opens on Saturday and runs until mid-April.
