Coach Luis Enrique from French subscription champion Paris St. Germain warned against “obsession” in the hunt for the title ahead of the Champions League duel with Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday (9 p.m./Prime Video).
“When a team, a club is obsessed with something, that’s never a good sign. You have to have hopes, ambition – but an obsession, that never works, in any area of life,” the Spaniard said at the press conference on Monday.
PSG has so far been chasing victory in the Champions League in vain. Enrique said: “We have to wait and see how the competition starts. As a club we are convinced and motivated, we hope to win all possible competitions.”
The former Spanish national coach won the premier class with FC Barcelona in 2015 – back then with superstar Lionel Messi.
The coach is not surprised that PSG recently had to cope with a setback in Ligue 1 with a 2-3 defeat against OGC Nice. “We didn’t start the season particularly well, but every time I go somewhere it’s been like that,” he emphasized.
Paris are currently only fifth in the table and only have eight points after five games.
It’s a process “that takes time,” said Enrique, even if he doesn’t actually have time: “If the results are bad, I’ll be fired.” He is very satisfied with the attitude of his protégés: “For that we get ten out of ten points.”
