Enough water but not enough vegetables at school | Domestic

Free tap water is available every day in almost every primary school surveyed (99 percent). In 93 percent of primary schools, drinking during class is also allowed, an increase compared to the previous Prevention Survey from 2019. At the time, this was only possible in 78 percent of primary schools. In secondary education, 94 percent offer free tap water every day, which is almost 10 percent more than in 2019. Drinks such as fruit juice and sweetened milk drinks for primary education and sugary soft drinks for secondary education are increasingly becoming a thing of the past.

There is work to be done in schools that offer hot meals. In primary education, just over half (54 percent) serve a full portion of vegetables every day. In secondary education this is even less: 51 percent, which is an increase compared to the 32 percent from the previous survey.

According to the survey, schools are now focusing well on mental well-being. In primary education, this is done by teaching students in different years skills that contribute to their mental well-being (87 percent). But also by, for example, giving them a say in school events (74 percent) or by letting teachers and management set a good example (82 percent).

In secondary education, the emphasis is mainly on creating a social environment in which students learn to deal with difficult moments, stress or a setback.
