Enough money in, but monument station cat Brammetje is not allowed on the beloved platform

There is a lot of donations for a monument of station cat Brammetje. At the moment, the counter has passed 8,000 euros, which is much more than expected. “It was everyone’s cat,” co-initiator of the crowdfunding campaign Daphne de Harde tells NH Radio. Many people wanted the beloved red cat to be immortalized on the platform of Purmerend-Weidevenne station, but that will not happen.

Station cat Brammetje was very popular. The red tomcat was first spotted seven years ago at Purmerend-Weidevenne station. He greeted the travelers from his favorite spot, under the bench on the platform. With the exception of last month, because then it was the hangover has been missing for a few days.

The 9-year-old cat belonged to ‘everyone’ and that is why, according to co-initiator Daphne de Harde, a statue should be built. “He was always there!” Judging by the number of donations, many people agree. It is therefore not only the Purmerenders who transfer money, the wallet is also drawn from abroad.

Daphne: “We will donate the money we have left over in consultation with the owner. We do not yet know what purpose. We are now working on the location and the image.”

Images are not allowed on the platform

The intention was to immortalize the station cat on the platform, but NS put a stop to that. Daphne: “NS has a national policy that they do not place memorial monuments on the platform because this can be intense for train drivers who have experienced a collision if they see a monument. And we understand that.”

It is not yet known where the statue will be located. The organizers are still looking for a suitable location: “We are talking to the municipality.”

Shock for many travelers

That the news about the death of the hangover does not leave many Purmerenders cold, it turned out last week at the Purmerend-Weidevenne station. The death of the beloved cat was the talk of the town there. “It’s a shock, I thought: it’s not true. He was so cuddly,” says a woman to NH.
