Friday is a bridge day between the Ascension Day holiday and the weekend. On that day there is sometimes an adapted offer on public transport, and most banks also remain closed.

On Thursday 18 May, the Ascension Day holiday, applies at the NMBS the Sunday schedule. There is an adjusted timetable on Fridays and some P trains do not run, just like one in two S5 trains Mechelen – Brussels-Schuman – Edingen/Geraardsbergen. On Friday, the ticket offices in the stations are also open according to the Sunday timetable.

The buses from The line follow the Sunday timetable on Ascension Day. On Friday, the regular weekly service will be used, according to De Lijn. Travelers can plan their route via the website or via the De Lijn app.

Many local authorities do not make the bridge on Friday, according to the Association of Flemish Cities and Municipalities (VVSG). The continuous services such as residential care centers, police, fire brigade and hospitals are of course open as usual. As regards waste collection and leisure services such as swimming pools and sports centers, the VVSG calls on you to consult the website of the municipality or of the specific service or facility. Concerning the childcare there is also no general rule.

Thursday is a public holiday, so there will be none mail and parcels distributed on that day, according to bpost. But Friday is an ordinary working day: letters and parcels are delivered and the post offices are open.

The Febelfin banking federation reports this banks will normally be closed during the entire extended weekend.

The supermarkets will remain closed on Thursday due to the legal holiday, with the exception of shops that are open on public holidays. On Friday, customers can go back to normal opening hours for their weekend shopping.
