English media after Chelsea’s new blunder: ‘Most expensive goalless draw ever’ | Foreign football

In the winter, Chelsea showered with millions. The mid-engine in the Premier League brought in one player after the other, but in the derby against Fulham, Chelsea came no further than a goalless draw. The British media jumped on it.

The Sun was inexorable in the report. “The expected football carnival and goal storm to accompany Chelsea’s astonishing transfer boom last month failed to materialize. This was the most expensive goalless draw in history.”

Chelsea spent no less than 330 million euros on new purchases in January, including Michailo Moedrik (100 million euros) and world champion Enzo Fernandez (121 million euros). But they could not yet make the difference against Fulham, which is higher in the ranking than Chelsea. “Over half a billion for just two shots on target all night. Chairman Todd Boehly will not have looked forward to that,” said the British newspaper. “That has not proven to be enough for an investment that could change entire economies.”

According to The Sun may trainer Graham Potter be lucky to still be head coach. “The club is not necessarily concerned with how much money has been spent. He must have one of the best bosses in the world who smiles and insists that every weak performance is about the long haul. It will take some time before the new faces are fitted. This season is already written off, with a tiny bit of hope left that Chelsea will reach Champions League football.”

Michailo Moedrik struggles against Fulham

The Guardian saw Moedrik struggle against Fulham. The Ukrainian remained in the dressing room after the break and former PSV player Noni Madueke took his place. “Potter needs more inspiration from Moedrik and needs to find a way to make Chelsea’s attacks less difficult.” Of the purchases, the newspaper only thought Enzo Fernandez played well, without really excelling. “Although he also did not show why he has now cost 120 million euros.”

Hakim Ziyech started in the base after an administrative blunder cost him a loan to Paris Saint-Germain. He didn’t excel at Chelsea, saw The Guardian. ,,Ziyech sprinted over the right flank and then produced a comic blunder.”

The quality newspaper wondered how this season will end for Chelsea. “It was impossible to know what Chelsea would produce after showing off their wealth and frenzied shopping spree in January. The transfer window has passed in a blur, eight new players have arrived, but whether any of it will work is another thing. Is this, in the words of Paris Saint-Germain, “a class A circus?”

Basic team Chelsea worth 423 million euros more

Also The Times did not immediately see that Chelsea’s shopping spree brought something extra to the field. Potter’s base squad was already worth more than 423 million euros than that of his colleague Marco Silva. “Todd Boehly folded his arms, leaned back in his chair and blew his breath when his own ‘galacticos’, which have cost more than half a billion in the past seven months, failed to beat Fulham.” The newspaper therefore also headlined: ‘Seven acquisitions, 360 million euros spent but Chelsea cannot buy a victory.’
