Robbie Savage, former player of Leicester City and Blackburn Rovers, among others, called the cap with which Weghorst played Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay ‘brilliant’. The former midfielder called on the striker who came over from VfL Wolfsburg in the past transfer period BT Sports out as man of the match.
Rio Ferdinand also looked forward to what the 9 number of Burnley showed. “Normally that team plays the ball long and deep. But Weghorst wants to have the ball in his feet, like a real striker. The Manchester United defense thought they had him under control, but the cap move and pass to Jay Rodriguez were superb. If Kevin de Bruyne did something like that, we would have gone mad,” says the former England top defender about Weghorst’s assist in Rodriguez’s 1-1.
Another former international, Peter Crouch, also expressed his appreciation for Weghorst’s performance. “He looks like he feels good and comfortable in English football. He is ready to fight and he is chasing goals. He hasn’t scored for Burnley yet, but he’s impressing and impacting that side’s play. He’s all over the pitch and I think if Burnley puts him to good use, he’ll be a great asset to the club.”
