England national soccer coach Gareth Southgate has called up Dortmund’s Jew Bellingham for the conclusion of the group stage in the Nations League with the game against Germany.
The BVB professional is one of only three legionnaires in the 28-strong squad for the duels with Italy in Milan (September 23) and the DFB team in London (September 26).
Like Bellingham, Fikayo Tomori (AC Milan) and Tammy Abraham (AS Roma) play abroad. The squad of the Three Lions is led by Captain Harry Kane. The only newcomer is Brentford striker Ivan Toney, who was chosen over European runners-up Marcus Rashford.
After the death of Queen Elizabeth II, his “thoughts are with the royal family,” said Southgate. Because of the ongoing mourning on the island, he considered an ordinary squad announcement to be “inappropriate”. “This would divert people’s attention from where it should be.”
