England stormed into the final with a thumping victory

The hosts are in the final: England beat Sweden in the semifinals. The “Lionesses” even did magic.

England are in the final of the European Women’s Football Championship. The hosts clearly beat Sweden 4-0. The goals for the “Lionesses” were scored by Beth Mead (34′), Lucy Bronze (48′), Alessia Russo (68′) and Fran Kirby (76′). The English opponent in the final in Wembley Stadium, which has already sold out 90,000 spectators, will be played tomorrow between Germany and France (from 9 p.m. in the t-online live ticker).

England, who have been eliminated in the last three consecutive major tournaments in the semi-finals, are in the final of the European Championship for the third time after 1984 and 2009. On Sunday, the “Lionesses” want to end the untitled time for the motherland of football since the men’s World Cup triumph in 1966.

The clear result on Bramall Lane in Sheffield was not immediately apparent. In the early stages, Sweden dominated the game and could have taken the lead after just under 20 seconds through Sofia Jakobsson. However, England goalkeeper Mary Earps reacted strongly. The hosts were surprised and overwhelmed by the Swedish attacking football, only gradually gained more possession and more shares in the game. Mead’s goal turned the balance of power abruptly, after that the English managed cleverly and knew how to follow up, sometimes spectacularly – Russo with a heel, Kirby with a lob worth seeing.
