England outclasses Norway in eight-goal gala

It takes 12 minutes for England to score for the first time. Shortly thereafter, the game is decided – and Norway experiences a debacle.

Goal gala in the top game: With a record win, England’s women’s national team became the first team to reach the quarter-finals at the home European Championship. With the 8-0 (6-0) win over Norway in Brighton on Monday evening, the English team booked their place in the last eight early. The hosts are already certain as the winners of Group A and could possibly become opponents of the DFB team in the quarter-finals.

In front of a capacity crowd of 28,500, Beth Mead (34th, 38th and 81st) scored with a hat-trick, Ellen White (29th and 41st), Georgia Stanway (12th from penalties), Lauren Hemp (15th) and Substitute Alessia Russo (66th) scored for the vastly superior English women. In 2017 they had won the title fights in the Netherlands against Scotland 6-0 – it had been the highest victory at a European Championship so far.
