Engie, like many other suppliers, withdrew fixed energy contracts from its offer in March due to skyrocketing energy prices in the markets. There was also a stop to permanent contracts for staff.
According to Scheerlinck, the company has identified irregularities in the creation of contracts. Although that was against the guidelines, certain employees have created permanent contracts with retroactive effect. Scheerlinck talks about “fraudulent practices”.
Engie declined to give further details about the case. According to RTBF, the employees involved made permanent contracts for each other.
The possible dismissals in the seventeen files led to social unrest on Monday. Scheerlinck confirms that there were short work stoppages and that the unions have filed a strike notice.
