Engelhorn Group could move to Mainz

The Mannheim trading company Engelhorn, which is firmly anchored in the region with seven department stores in Mannheim and Viernheim, could venture into Rhineland-Palatinate with an expansion to Mainz.

Tina Badrot and Tim Gemünden from the project developer Boulevard Lu GmbH & Co. KG confirm in a statement that Engelhorn Sports is to become one of the anchor tenants in the new Lu quarter. They are in “final negotiations”, Badrot and Gemünden continue. Despite the difficult situation in stationary retail, the Lu location was well received.

Since the parking spaces are to be completely relocated to the basement, the supermarket will be located on the future ground floor level and thus in the vicinity of Engelhorn Sports. The company is planning a wide range of sports.

“With an extensive and high-quality range of sports fashion and sports equipment, the Engelhorn Group is ideally positioned to add a new magnet to the retail landscape in Mainz with its sports concept,” explain Badrot and Gemünden, who are delighted to be able to add a Closing gaps in supply in the center of Mainz”.

Ludwigsstrasse in Mainz is one of the main arteries in the city centre. With the redesign of the former Karstadt building, the new Lu district is to offer 10,000 square meters of retail space, but also open spaces and a pop-up hall that offers space for restaurants and events. The project is expected to be completed by mid to late 2026.
