Enforcement of the Blue-White Korfball League final, Green-Yellow has to get to work

The korfball players of Blauw-Wit will also play at the highest level in the hall next season. Due to the defeat of competitor Groen Geel tonight at PKC, the team from Amsterdam no longer has to fear that they will finish in ninth place in the Korfball League.

Green Yellow needed a miracle to catch up with Blue & White. Winning against leader PKC in Papendrecht turned out to be an impossible task, as expected. It became 32-20. Blauw-Wit also lost big: the away match against DVO ended in 30-15. With one game left to play, the difference between the two North Holland teams remains two points. But because the mutual result is in favor of Blauw-Wit, Groen Geel can no longer avoid the play-down matches.

Groen Geel took the lead briefly in the opening phase. Thanks to four consecutive scores, Dico Dik’s team led 4-2 after ten minutes. PKC quickly put things in order and made the difference from 4-5 with a nine-run run. The victory was never in danger after that. Carlo de Vries became the top scorer of Groen Geel with six hits.

Blauw-Wit was able to keep up with DVO for almost one half in Bennekom, which has a ticket for the semi-finals up for grabs. But after Frank Mostard’s penalty shot (8-6) was used at the end of the first half, the home team walked away to a 13-7 halftime score. After the break, Blauw-Wit was unable to catch up.

Korfball league 2

In order to also be able to act at the highest level next season, Groen Geel must deal with the losing finalist of the Korfbal League 2, formerly the major league, in a play-down series of up to three games. It is not yet known who will be the opponent.
