Grid operator Enexis will not compensate for the damage caused on Friday by an electricity peak in Oude Pekela. A spokesperson confirms a message about this from RTV Noord.
A copper theft from a transformer house in Oude Pekela caused a power peak of 400 volts during the night from Thursday to Friday, where the mains voltage is normally between 220 and 240 volts. More than 240 Enexis customers lost power. Dozens of them had appliances burn out, including heating systems.
Claim damage from insurance
According to Enexis, the company is not liable because the damage was not caused by Enexis, but by the copper thief. It is best for victims to contact their own insurance company, he says. Between thirty and forty residents reported to the grid operator with damage to “everything with a plug in the socket”.
Day’s work to repair damage
He emphasizes that Enexis itself has also suffered damage because “technical things were broken” and because twelve employees spent a day trying to get the power supply going in Oude Pekela again. Whether Enexis can recover that damage somewhere is still being investigated.
