Energy company: Tynaarlo most sustainable Dutch municipality

The municipality of Tynaarlo has been declared the most sustainable municipality in the Netherlands. This is evident from figures from energy company Vattenfall.

There are solar panels on almost half of all roofs in Tynaarlo. The gardens are also green and there are few tiles. Residents of the municipality of Tynaarlo also often apply for a subsidy to purchase a heat pump or solar boiler.

Tynaarlo is comfortably at the top in the energy supplier’s ‘sustainability index’. With a percentage of 71.2 percent, the municipality scores more than 11 percent higher than number two Borsele (Zeeland).

For its research among Dutch municipalities, the energy company looked at the petrification of gardens, the share of homes with solar panels and the number of applications that residents submitted for sustainability subsidies. They used figures from Statistics Netherlands (CBS), Cobra Groeninzicht and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO).

In fourth place we find another Drenthe municipality, Aa en Hunze with a sustainability score of exactly 50 percent.
