Eneco will offer dynamic energy contracts: pay according to the current hourly price | Interior

Eneco will be the first of the large energy companies in the Netherlands to offer dynamic energy contracts. Customers pay rates that are based on the current hourly prices for electricity and the daily price for gas. Those prices can vary greatly, depending on how great the demand for energy is at a given time.

According to Eneco, this gives households more control over their energy costs, because you can, for example, turn on your washing machine or charge an electric bicycle when the price of electricity is very low. When setting your thermostat, it can pay to take into account the current gas price.

The increasing availability of sustainable electricity influences the energy price, Eneco explains. At times when a lot of solar and wind energy is available, electricity prices are lower than at times when this is not the case. With a dynamic contract, customers can adjust their power consumption accordingly. According to the energy supplier, an additional advantage is that the available power is better used, namely at times when a lot of sustainable power is available.

It concerns an expansion of the options for consumers, because fixed (for one and three years) and variable contracts also continue to exist with the energy supplier.

More people are switching to dynamic contracts

The dynamic option is already available for consumers without solar panels. People who have solar panels will probably not be able to conclude such a contract until October. According to Eneco, a few adjustments to the systems are required for this.

Eneco is not the first electricity supplier to respond to the strongly fluctuating electricity and gas prices. Earlier this year, the Association of Dynamic Energy Suppliers (VvDE) reported that households were switching to dynamic energy contracts in increasing numbers. According to that organization, at least 300,000 households and small businesses already had a dynamic contract in February, out of a total of more than 7 million gas connections.
