End of the Tadic era: “The Litmanen of this period”

After five seasons Tadic on Fire the fire is extinguished. Ajax and the Serbian captain are officially separating. He says it is best for both himself and the club to make a fresh start.

Sander Zeldenrijk wrote a book about the Tadic phenomenon. He says he was confused for a while when he heard that Tadic was leaving. “Of course we knew this moment would come. You can be very melancholic, but of course there is life after Dusan Tadic. But it is also the end of an era and you can think about that,” he says.

Tadic has often indicated that he does not think the selection is good enough at the moment. “I think this decision is the best for all parties at the moment,” says Zeldenrijk. “Tadic still wants to be important in the fall of his career. Ajax is currently starting all over again with a new trainer, staff and new players. I understand his request not to participate in that new project.”

Still, not all fans agree. “I can’t actually imagine Ajax without Tadic,” says a fan. “He has meant so much to the club and he really is a boss in the field. He is an example for the rest of the boys.”

It is not yet known what Tadic will do next. However, he has indicated that he would like to return as a trainer someday. Zeldenrijk: “I do hope that we can say goodbye to him in a nice way. So something more than just a round on the field. He deserves that. And we will see him again anyway, I have no doubt about that.”
