Laren VVD voters see the departure of Prime Minister Rutte as the only way out that was still possible. This morning the prime minister announced that he would step down as party leader. And that news can count on positive reactions in Laren, a real VVD stronghold, says reporter Suzette Nesselaar.
The VVD has been the largest party in Gooise Laren for many years. Almost 40 percent of those entitled to vote voted for the VVD in 2021. In 2017 it was 47 percent.
“I bet all balls on Pieter Omtzigt, I think we can trust him,” says one of the VVD voters now. He is not the only one, because everyone who gets NH in front of the camera today agrees that the Rutte era is now over.
“So many mistakes have been made, he hides behind everything and is no longer credible”
“Yes, finally,” continues another. “Understandably, glad he left. He should have done it much sooner. So many mistakes have been made, he hides behind everything and is no longer credible.”
Then turn around?
The question is whether, after Rutte’s departure, whether people will vote for the VVD. The answer of Laren residents? “I have to think about that for a while” and “no”.
Are there any alternatives as far as they are concerned? The name of Pieter Omtzigt is mentioned a lot anyway. “It is really credible, I can vote for that.”
