The Norwegian ski racer Aleksander Aamodt Kilde underwent shoulder surgery after his serious fall in the downhill classic in Wengen on Sunday and will be out for the rest of the season.
“The season is over. We hope that he can be there again next season,” said the Norwegian team doctor, Marc Jacob Strauss, to the Norwegian broadcaster “NRK”. It was examined that “important structures such as blood vessels and nerves were not damaged. Fortunately, this was not the case.”
Kilde suffered a dislocation during his fearsome flight into the safety net in Target-S. In addition, he only suffered a cut on his calf and abrasions on his face; the 31-year-old was spared any other serious injuries that were initially feared.
Kilde was immediately visited by Mikaela Shiffrin. The ski queen from the USA had skipped the races in Zauchensee, Austria, and found herself at her boyfriend’s bedside in Bern, Switzerland, on Sunday morning. Among other things, she placed a kiss on his cheek. “The one and only Mikaela Shiffrin takes care of me,” Kilde wrote alongside a picture he posted on X.
