End of European Championship for handball player Samir Benghanem after serious knee injury

Handballer Samir Benghanem has a serious knee injury and will be out for at least nine months. The circle player of the Dutch team dropped out on Monday evening with a painful knee in the narrowly lost European Championship match against title holder Sweden. As a club, Benghamen plays for Aalsmeer.

Benghanem was one of the driving forces behind the Dutch team against Sweden. The Dutch team fought for victory until the last minute, but narrowly lost 29-28 to Sweden.

Stretcher

The 30-year-old handball player unfortunately landed on his knee in the second half. He had to leave the field in Mannheim on a stretcher. The international was already playing with a bandage around his head. That was the result of a hard collision in the previous match against Bosnia last Saturday.

The handball players of national coach Staffan Olsson start the main round in Hamburg with a match against reigning world champion Denmark. This will be followed by matches against Norway, Slovenia and Portugal. The first two from the group qualify for the semi-finals.
