The Dakar Rally of Vick Versteijnen is already over after the first stage. Due to mechanical problems, the Team de Rooy driver will not start the second stage on Monday. Versteijnen was an outsider for the truck title.
The piston of Vick Versteijnen’s truck failed on Sunday afternoon during the first stage of the Dakar Rally. Things went wrong for the driver from Hilvarenbeek just before the finish. At the last waypoint he was still in ninth place.
After his engine had failed, the assistance car had to head towards the stranded driver. He went to tow the truck to the bivouac late on Sunday evening.
Downer
Versteijnen participated in the Dakar Rally for the sixth time. Last year he also had a lot of bad luck, but he managed to bring his truck to the finish line and finish in the top ten. An achievement that will not succeed this year.
It is the next downer for Team De Rooy. Earlier in the day, Janus van Kasteren already got a flat tire and finished in a disappointing seventh place. The top favorite got the flat tire when he was first.
