End of career? Concern for Sebastian Rode

Sebastian Rode remains unlucky: The Eintracht Frankfurt professional will be absent for a longer period of time again – but this is made clear in a message to the fans.

A knee injury thwarted captain Sebastian Rode’s plans for the farewell tour with Bundesliga soccer club Eintracht Frankfurt. The midfielder, who wanted to retire after this season anyway, is threatened with an early end to his career, which has been marked by injuries. As the Hessians announced on Thursday, Rode will be missing “until further notice”.

The results of a knee examination last week were “very depressing” and “required some time to clarify all eventualities and treatment options,” Rode wrote in a message to fans. It will be “very difficult for him to be able to help the team in sports again over the course of the rest of the season.”

“Last big goal”

With a view to treatment, he decided on an arthroscopy, he wrote. He still wants to “give everything” to “say goodbye to you on the pitch” on the last Bundesliga matchday against RB Leipzig (May 18). This, “together with achieving an international competition,” is his “last major goal as an active Eagle.”

The 33-year-old had last played in the Conference League defeat against Union Saint-Gilloise the previous week and left the field with tears in his eyes after the final whistle. His greatest success with the Hessians remains the Europa League victory in 2022, in which he held out for a long time wearing a turban despite a laceration on his head.

Rose has been back with the Hessians since 2019, having previously played for the SGE from 2010 to 2014 and celebrated his breakthrough there. The midfielder was unable to assert himself at his subsequent positions at FC Bayern and Borussia Dortmund due to persistent injuries.
