End of Bayern dominance? Sammer speaks

Since 2013, the German champions have been called FC Bayern every year. Matthias Sammer talks about the performance of the Munich team – and about the future.

Matthias Sammer is not counting on a quick end to FC Bayern’s dominance in the Bundesliga. “I don’t believe it,” said the 54-year-old in the “kicker” interview (Monday) when asked whether Munich would offer a target for attack in the coming season. “When a club achieves such success over a decade, we should stop grumbling, complaining or looking at it with envy, just be full of respect. I don’t expect a dip,” said Sammer.

Born in Saxony, he worked as a consultant for Borussia Dortmund after working as a DFB sports director and sports mind at FC Bayern. “I recognize their performance,” said Sammer to record champions Munich: “I wouldn’t have done it before, but if they’re great again next year and become champions, I’ll be the first to congratulate.” However, the ex-professional is “much more interested in what Borussia Dortmund creates, but I’m happy when the German teams, including Bayern, are successful”.
