Emre Can has had another mixed half-year at Borussia Dortmund. The professional did not make it into the World Cup squad. A timely departure from BVB is obviously not out of the question.
According to the “Ruhr Nachrichten”, Emre Can has not been able to change his status at Borussia Dortmund as a possible candidate for a change. On the contrary: the status of the 28-year-old has even solidified internally at BVB.
Already in the last transfer period in the summer, BVB would have been willing to talk if offers from other clubs had arrived, it was said at the time on “Bild”. This also applies to the change window beginning in January.
The central midfielder, who sometimes plays in central defense at BVB, still has a contract until the summer of 2024. With his salary, he is one of the top earners in the squad. In January 2020 he was signed by Juventus Turin for around 25 million euros.
Last DFB international match for Can in June 2021
The 37-time German international has only been in the starting XI in the Bundesliga three times this season under head coach Edin Terzic. In total, he made ten out of a possible 15 appearances in the House of Lords. Can is therefore still a long way from claiming a leadership role at Borussia Dortmund.
Criticism of the Dortmunder has often come up in recent weeks and months because of his sometimes uncontrolled game. Can has already picked up four yellow cards in the current Bundesliga season. Sometimes he also made careless turnovers or technical errors.
Can, who played his last international match for the DFB in June 2021, initially went on a trip to Asia with Borussia Dortmund during the Bundesliga break. Before the winter break, Can and Co. have a friendly tournament in Bucharest on Saturday.
