Due to problems at Meerlanden, residents of Haarlemmermeer have to save their organic waste for a week longer. The waste processor says it can no longer allow drivers to do their work safely due to a shortage of personnel and materials.
earlier it turned out that the waste processor was increasingly getting into trouble when collecting the waste. According to spokesman Bas Boone, the failure of three broken vehicles was the biggest cause at the time. According to the spokesperson, the residents of Haarlemmermeer did not have to worry. “The intention is that in the coming weeks there will be no more deviations from the waste calendar,” he said three weeks ago.
Patience
Yet now, almost a month later, Haarlemmermeer’s patience is being appealed to. “During the summer holidays, we collect your organic waste every two weeks instead of weekly”, writes Multi-Country on Facebook.
Three weeks ago, spokesperson Bas Boone did not speak about a personnel shortage, but the organization is now coming back to this: “The national personnel shortage has now also reached Meerlanden, high absenteeism and increasing corona infections play an important role in this.”
The organization continues: “The worldwide shortage of chips and raw materials also means that the necessary maintenance of the vehicles is delayed. We now think it is no longer safe enough for our drivers, and therefore also the residents of the Haarlemmermeer. craftsmen must be sharp while working and be able to operate with safe equipment in your residential area.”
Tidal wave of complaints
Meerlanden has received a tidal wave of complaints via social media in recent weeks. And even with this message, the waste processor can count on little support. “Weak bite,” complains one resident. Compensation or reduction of the waste levy is also requested several times.
The municipality will come back to the latter suggestions tomorrow.
