Empoli-Verona 0-1: Bonazzoli’s debut goal decides

The first game of salvation of the season goes to Hellas, after the Tuscans had come close to taking the lead in the first half with Marin’s crossbar and Gyasi’s great opportunity

Having entered just a few minutes ago, Federico Bonazzoli immediately put his stamp on his new adventure at Verona, giving the Gialloblù three golden points. The former Salernitana striker, fifteen minutes from the end, makes perfect use of an empty exit from Caprile and deposits a ball into the net that sends Hellas flying. We’re only on matchday one, but this victory against Empoli weighs heavily given that the Tuscans are a direct rival of the Gialloblù for salvation. Another bitterness for Zanetti’s team after the unexpected elimination from the Italian Cup against Cittadella, but it must be said that the Tuscans were also unlucky: Marin’s crossbar, Montipò’s saves and Gyasi’s incredible mistake in the first time have been fatal.

new faces

It starts with several new signings on both sides: Caprile, Gyasi and Cancellieri in Empoli, Mboula and Folorunsho (who made visits only three days ago) in Verona. The first phase was studied, the sultry heat didn’t help, yet after eight minutes there was the first big chance of the match: a great blow from Marin from distance, Montipò miraculously managed to deflect the shot onto the crossbar. The Verona goalkeeper is in great form and five minutes later he manages to fend off even Caputo’s attempt from a decentralized position. The landlords push harder, Verona instead focuses above all on counterattacks. The cooling break dutifully arrives in the 25th minute and right at the end of the first half two flare-ups materialize: the yellow-blues, after prolonged action, are dangerous with Ngonge who tries to worry Caprile in a split, but keeps a good guard. On the other hand, however, it is Gyasi who eats a goal already scored, after a nice assist from Baldanzi: the ex Spezia, face to face with Montipò, concludes incredibly high.

decisive

The beginning of the second half is more modest, with the pace slowing down. Empoli relies on the quality of Baldanzi who in the 60th minute is spread on the edge of the area by Magnani. Marin tries again on the free kick, but his ball comes out just a little. On the flip in front it is Doig who has a good ball, but his diagonal left foot goes wide. Then in the 70th minute Baroni throws in Bonazzoli, Saponara and Djuric and the game changes. Verona takes courage, raises the center of gravity and scores the winning goal thanks to a mistake by Caprile who comes off badly from a corner kick and leaves the ball to Bonazzoli, who doesn’t forgive in the 75th minute. Empoli played all out, a couple of accelerations from Baldanzi scared Hellas who in the end managed to win a victory with a high specific weight.
