Employees want these benefits and bonuses

employee benefits

The fight for new employees continues unabated and is determined by a shortage of skilled workers and competitive pressure. Because nowadays a company has to offer much more than a reasonable salary and three weeks vacation. Factors such as pay, local proximity or the brand are receding into the background and making room for other employee benefits and services. But which special benefits do employees want and do they really make the difference? A new representative study by Stepstone summarizes what employees value most. The respondents were asked about the three most important employee benefits or social benefits.

The most popular benefits

More and more companies are advertising with benefits in addition to the regular salary, but not all employee benefits are well received by the employees. Employees in Germany have clear preferences. Almost half of those surveyed would opt for a company pension scheme. 30.9 percent would like free drinks at their workplace. But health care benefits, such as subsidies for fitness studios, are also conceivable for many. Fourth place among the most popular employee benefits and bonuses is a performance-based bonus, which a quarter of those surveyed would like to have. 23.7 percent find profit sharing more interesting. It becomes clear that direct, capital-forming benefits are still very popular with many employees. The same applies to the company car, job ticket and meal allowance. On the other hand, fewer than three percent of those surveyed would like offers such as psychological help, a family office or leisure activities at work.

The study shows that in many cases it is worthwhile for companies to offer employees benefits such as a company pension scheme and to inform them about this on a regular basis. This not only helps in recruiting employees, but also in their long-term loyalty to the company.
