lawsuitTwo members of the American rock band Eagles of Death Metal gave emotional testimony in a Paris court today about the terror attack in Bataclan, on November 13, 2015. Frontman Jesse Hughes said he knew immediately that something was wrong when he heard shots during their performance in the concert hall.
“Being from a desert community in California, I know the sound of gunshots,” Hughes said in the trial of Salah Abdeslam, the only suspect to survive the attacks. “I felt death approaching. We ran for our lives. Nearly ninety friends have been murdered before our eyes.”
Guitar technician Eden Galindo was initially confused because he didn’t immediately recognize the bangs, he said. “I didn’t know what was going on. I thought maybe the sound system was exploding.”
Through the wings
During the attack nearly seven years ago, terrorists invaded the concert hall and fired automatic weapons at the audience, killing 90 people. The band managed to flee the hall through the wings.
A taxi then took the band members to the police station. There they sat among refugee concert-goers, who were covered in blood. “They wanted to silence the music. But they failed,” said Hughes.
other life
The two band members say the attack changed their lives forever. Galindo said he thinks about the families of the victims every day and prays for them. “I live a different life. It will never be the same.”
In total, 130 people died in the attacks in the French capital. In addition to the Bataclan theater, terrorists attacked cafes, restaurants and the Stade de France football stadium with bomb vests and weapons. Abeslam (32) was part of an IS group in Europe and is charged with murder, attempted murder and hostage-taking. He denies the allegations.
