Reunification after sixty years
Harmelen – A heartbreaking moment on Saturday afternoon at the memorial monument for the largest Dutch train disaster ever in Harmelen, exactly sixty years ago today. André Smeding, who survived the train disaster, met the woman he rescued from a train compartment there. He did not know the name of the then only fourteen-year-old girl and after all these years he is curious what had become of her. Thanks to calls in the media in the run-up to today, the reunion has finally succeeded. Conny te Grotenhuis from Heenvliet was rescued from the train by Smeding.
