FC Porto announced on Sunday evening that the experienced attacker has signed for FC Porto. De Jong will work there with Francesco Farioli, the former Ajax trainer, who has been active at the Portuguese top club since this summer.

PSV granted De Jong a long time to respond to the offer that was done, but the striker did not give a shit and kept his cards in front of the chest. In the end, PSV continued and Alassane Pléa contracted as the second striker next to Ricardo Pepi, the intended number one for the spits position in the coming season. De Jong trained this summer at PSV on the Herdgang, but in the end his departure is final. This put an end to an era.

De Jong played eight seasons for PSV in two periods and completed 338 games for the Eindhoven club, scored 186 goals and provided 98 assists. The 34-year-old striker became champion five times with PSV.

De Jong against supporters PSV: no goodbye, but see you soon

De Jong has said goodbye to the supporters of the Eindhoven players through the X channel of PSV. The 34-year-old striker continues his career at FC Porto.

“Dear PSV people, it was fantastic,” said De Jong. “Eight seasons, champion five times, won the cup and numerous Johan Cruijff scales. We also played unforgettable evenings in the Champions League. What an atmosphere.”

De Jong says that PSV is in his heart. “This is not goodbye, but see you soon. I will stay connected to this beautiful club for the rest of my life, the most beautiful in the Netherlands,” the striker continues. “I and my family are now opting for a different challenge, a different adventure. I hope to achieve success there too. PSV is my home. Your fans have supported me, in good and in bad times. I have given everything for you and the club. The times are now very good as PSV. Make sure that it stays that way. Support each other and battle for Eendracht makes power.

De Jong surprises Bosz with transfer to FC Porto

De Jong surprised PSV trainer Peter Bosz with his transfer to FC Porto. “No, I didn’t see this coming. I heard it yesterday,” said the coach after the win on Go Ahead Eagles in the Johan Cruijff Scale (2-1).

De Jong had an expiring contract and it was unclear for a long time where he would play football next season. “I will actually miss everything about him,” said Bosz. “I think Luuk is a good person. I like to work with people I can trust. Luuk is not only a good header, but also a good football player. He has been very important to me and PSV for two years. I still think it is a shame that he is leaving, but that is his good right.”

When Bosz himself still played football, he stood in the duels with PSV opposite Romário and Ronaldo. “That was not nice. They belonged to the absolute world top. Because of his length, I would not like to play against Luuk. But Romário and Ronaldo are just another category. Luuk has a huge reputation. He is one of the best strikers with whom I worked together.”
