Emotional Dordrecht player no longer returns to the field after racist chants | Dutch football

Duel temporarily suspendedIn the Kitchen Champion Division, the game between FC Dordrecht and MVV has been stopped in injury time due to a racist incident. One of Dordrecht’s players, the French defender Seydine N’Diaye, drew the attention of the arbitration to the fact that he had been racially treated by supporters of MVV from the box.

Referee Richard Martens then stopped the game, with a score of 3-1 for Dordrecht. After a break, both teams returned to the field. Without the emotional N’Diaye, who had already left.

The Dordrecht defender was completely over the red and initially even received a yellow card after he complained to the linesman. After Martens had also heard the noises, the arbiter directed both teams inside.

N’Diaye did not want to return to the field. The other 21 players came back on the field after a 10-minute delay and knelt together after the game resumed with a throw-in. Martens, who was also kneeling, whistled again immediately afterwards. ,,This idea came from the players of both teams. We actually thought this was a very nice initiative, it indicates that the players are aware that it is really not possible if there was racism here,” according to the KNVB. The football association will let the professional football prosecutor find out exactly what happened. “If there was racism here, that’s outrageous. We are not going to go into this now, this will be with the prosecutor for investigation,” said the KNVB spokeswoman.

,,This is a big shadow over this victory”, said general manager Hans de Zeeuw. ,,From the section with MVV supporters, jungle noises were made towards Seydine and he was therefore completely upset. That boy was in the shower in tears and I can imagine everything.”

FC Dordrecht coach Michele Santoni would have liked to talk about his team’s victory after the game, but instead it was about racism. “I think it’s a shame that in 2022 we still have to pay attention to such idiots. I haven’t heard it personally, but it has been confirmed by several people. If a boy reacts like that, then something must have happened. You don’t just do that. Fortunately, he is now calm again. This is difficult, you have to be in his shoes to understand it,” Santoni said to the Limburg broadcaster L1.

Mendes Moreira

On November 17, 2019, the FC Den Bosch – Excelsior match was stopped because the Rotterdam attacker Ahmad Mendes Moreira had been racially treated by supporters of the home club. Mendes Moreira walked off the field in tears. The images went around the world and sparked a wave of protests.

The players of the Dutch national team made statements about racism, the cabinet got involved and the Public Prosecution Service opened a criminal investigation. At the beginning of 2020, the KNVB, together with the government, drew up the plan of attack ‘Our football belongs to everyone’, intended to combat racism and discrimination.

MVV was 0-1 halfway through for a goal by Orhan Dzepar. FC Dordrecht, which missed a penalty before halftime via Stijn Meijer, came back strongly in the second half through hits from Anouar el Azzouzi and Christian Conteh, after which Meijer made up for his earlier mistake and determined the final score at 3-1.
