Marte Olsbu Røiseland ended her successful biathlon career after the season finale in Oslo. At her press conference on Tuesday, the record world champion made an emotional declaration of love to her husband, DSV coach Sverre Olsbu Røiseland.
“He was my biggest supporter,” enthused Marte Olsbu Røiseland: “It was a project with just the two of us the whole time. I’m so happy with the life we had and all the help I got from him have.”
“It’s a special day. I don’t know how to describe it, funeral and baptism on the same day,” Sverre Olsbu Røiseland reacted to the TV channel “NRK” on his wife’s resignation.
The 32-year-old has been a biathlon coach for years. After Sverre Olsbu Røiseland initially looked after his wife and the Norwegian B team, he switched to DSV before last season, where he coaches the German women’s team.
“I’m looking forward to having a normal life and just being man and wife, we’ve never tried that. I think it will be just as good as the life we had,” Marte Olsbu Røiseland looked at more time together with Sverre ahead.
Røiseland justifies biathlon withdrawal
With 13 gold medals, the Scandinavian is the sole record world champion in biathlon. At the age of 32, the Norwegian is now retiring after the season finale at Holmenkollen (March 16-19).
She no longer has “the necessary motivation to do the work necessary to be the best every day,” revealed the three-time Olympic champion.
“I think it’s best to stop while the level is still high. I think the body will appreciate it very much,” said Marte Olsbu Røiseland at the emotional press conference on her biathlon retirement.
