C.Just as cinema has its magical night with the Oscar, television also has its own. IS the night of Emmy Awards and, considering the emptying of theaters and the interest in TV series, we are ready to bet that they will become more and more central in the interest of fans. Meanwhile tonight at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles the awards ceremony for the 74th Emmy Awards will be staged. Here is who is vying for the biggest prizes, who are the favorites for the predictions and who, instead, should win in our opinion.
Emmy Awards, Best Drama Series
Among the 8 nominations there are Better Call Saul, Euphoria, Ozark, Severance, Squid Game, Stranger Things, Succession, Yellow jacket. Tonight at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles staged the awards ceremony of the 74th edition of the Emmy Awards. Here are the main awards nominations and our favorites.
The predictions say Succession. For the HBO series he put together well 25 nominations, it would be the third time in the Best Drama Series category. And, probably, the fascination with the dynamics of power and how they affect family relationships will still convince.
Our prize, however, we would give it to Better Call Saul. Jimmy McGill’s slow transformation into Saul Goodman is a human parable that never ceases to make us think. And it is masterfully told both in terms of screenplay and images. And then, every now and then, we must also focus attention elsewhere.
Drama Series, Best Actor
The nominations are for Jason Bateman (Ozark), Brian Cox (Succession), Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game), Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul), Adam Scott (Severance), and Jeremy Strong (Succession).
Also in this case the predictions point to one of the two protagonists of Succession: Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong. There are those who are ready to bet, however, that it will be the winner of the Emmy Awards Lee Jung-jae, the Seong Gi-hun of Squid Game, the only non-US production series among those named. The award would be a sort of recognition because, hardly, the South Korean revelation series of the year will be awarded the award in the Best Drama category.
We would give our award to Bob Odenkirk, star of Better Call Saul. He made his Jimmy / Saul a multi-faceted character, proving as a professional comedian that he is able to shed skin with incredible naturalness. And then he also “caught” a heart attack on set.
Drama Series, Best Actress
The nominations went to Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), Laura Linney (Ozark), Melanie Lynskey (Yellowjackets), Sandra Oh (Killing Eve), Reese Witherspoon (The morning show), and Zendaya (Euphoria).
The likely winners are Zendaya, who would double the accolade obtained in the debut season of Euphoriaand the award-winning Laura Linney which would thus earn her fifth Emmy out of 7 nominations received.
We would give our award to Laura Linney, already twice nominated for Ozark and always remained in the mouth. Self Ozark he is what he is, in fact, he also owes it to his Wendy. The apparent harmlessness of her hiding great manipulative skills tells a lot about the female universe.
Emmy Awards, Best Comedy Series
The nominations went to Abbott Elementary, Barry, Curb Your Enthusiam, Hacks, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Only Murders in the Building, Ted Lasso And What We Do in the Shadows.
Already awarded a year ago as the best series in the category, Ted Lasso has excellent chances to return to collect the prize again this season. The American coach traveling to England makes (sor) laugh and even think.
Our award also goes to Ted Lasso. Exactly, for the same reasons, why everyone expects me to return to the podium: laughing, smiling and thinking lightly are cure-all and we never get enough.
Comedy Series, Best Actor
The nominations went to Donald Glover (Atlanta), Bill Hader (Barry), Nicholas Hoult (The Great), Steve Martin (Only murders in the building), Martin Short (Only murders in the building), and Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso).
Bill Hader, protagonist and creator of Barryhe could hand down a second Emmy for his character in the black comedy that sees him as a frustrated killer seduced by the theater.
Our prize, however, we would give it to Steve Martinwhich with Martin Short (also a candidate), is the protagonist of Only Murders in the building. It is not just an affection for Steve Martin, who has been making us laugh since 1978, but the passion for “true crime” that ours translates to perfection. Probably because he wrote the series with himself in mind.
Comedy Series, Best Actress
The nominations went to Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs Maisel), Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary), Kaley Cuoco (The Flight Attendant), Elle Fanning (The Great), Issa Rae (Insecure), and Jean Smart (Hacks).
The predictions are not unanimous in this category. The scales tilts slightly for Quinta Brunson that as an idealistic teacher in a decidedly sui generis school, she would be the second black actress to win the award. Jean Smarthowever, he could reply with another Emmy for his performance in Hacks by Debora Vance, comedian downsized due to age who allies himself with a young Ava to return to success.
Our prize, a little sympathy and regret, we would give to Rachel Brosnahan whom we will see again for a little while in the role of Mrs Maisel. The series about the Jewish housewife becoming a stand up comedian, in fact, has only been renewed for another season. And for those who have loved her ironic resourcefulness this is a real drama!
