Four years ago, Emmi Granlund’s Instagram account received a message from the American singer Halsey’s stylist.
The stylist had found the clothing brand of Granlund, who lived in Minneapolis at the time, through social media and wanted to inquire if Granlund would have an outfit for the star at the upcoming Europe Music Awards gala.
There was no ready-made outfit, so Granlund rushed to the fabric store and sewed seven dresses for Halsey in a few days.
However, it was too late. In the end, Granlund’s design was not seen on Halsey, but the same dresses were later presented at another fashion show.
The incident is just one example of how Granlund thinks things tend to work out.
Granlund, who is creating a career as a model, interior architect and artist, strongly believes in the signs given by the universe.
– They are everywhere when you just open your eyes, Emmi Granlund says now.
At the time of the interview, Granlund is visiting Finland with his two sons from Nashville, USA, where Granlund’s husband, hockey player Mikael Granlund, plays for the NLH club Nashville Predators.
The husband was traded to the club on the same day when Granlund’s labor started. When the firstborn Milo was born, Granlund returned to the dream map he had compiled earlier.
– Everyone on that map was connected to Nashville in some way.
Separation from loved ones
At the turn of the year, the Granlunds moved to a new home. Granlund says that he has manifested to the family the home of his dreams, a detached house with a French touch, where he has his own home studio and art studio.
The home is located in a pleasant area, where everything you need is within walking distance. It is not very typical of large American cities.
Although Granlund has slowly formed his own support network during the ten years he spent in the United States, the separation from his loved ones gets heavier every year. At first, being alone was an adjustment.
Granlund grew up in a family with six children and got used to the fact that there is always life around. She has always known she wanted to be a mother.
However, motherhood has never been Granlund’s only dream. The time spent alone has given space to listen to one’s own dreams as well.

One of the dreams is music. When Granlund was unknowingly pregnant at the end of 2019, a melody started playing in her mind in the middle of a stroller run.
The song took on a whole new meaning in the spring and winter of 2020, when the Granlundies’ baby girl was stillborn. In the middle of the loss, more songs started coming.
– I’ve learned to appreciate the birth of children even more and I’ve also realized that my purpose is to make music.
Granlund recently released his first EP 1465. The name comes from Granlund’s lucky numbers. At the time of the loss, he began to see the number series 146 around him. Kuopus Noel was born in 2021, June 14.
– I still strongly believe that everything matters, whether it’s a good thing or a bad thing, says Granlund.

– Appreciation for mothers and fathers has grown immeasurably after becoming a mother myself. Maybe it’s not talked about enough, how hard parenting can be, Granlund reflects.
As a mother, Granlund wants to keep a strict line on her children’s privacy, and for example, she never shows her sons’ faces on social media. However, he values the years spent in the United States for both his children and himself.
The goal is an international career that would combine music and art. For that, Granlund has recently studied music production. He has already had a few exhibitions in the United States.
The importance of mental well-being is also repeated in the speech. It guides Granlund’s life holistically.
– I miss being grounded and close to nature. I hope that the connection with nature would be preserved and that my own children could experience it as well.
In the United States, Granlund has gained strength from a culture of openness.
– It has also helped my own liberation. In the Yankees, you are asked “hey, what else do you do”, and not classified into just one compartment.
