The war in Ukraine rages on. And after more than two and a half months of fighting, people continue to flee the country. In Emmen, Chanine Nijmeijer has taken in refugees for the second time, this time a mother with a son. But now she seeks help to shelter the woman’s mother and grandmother.
At the beginning of March, Nijmeijer was one of the first in Drenthe to take in refugees. The four ladies Nijmijer helped at the time have since left. “Through the network I have built up, I came into contact with a man who has an apartment complex in Assen. He made the vacant apartment that he used for recreational use available to the ladies,” says Nijmeijer. “So they now live independently in Assen. One of the mothers will soon start working, one of the teenage girls also already has a job and both teenagers are going to school.”
