A local resident along the Rondweg van Emmen (N391) was so fed up with the speeding traffic that he decided yesterday afternoon to place a fake speed camera in the roadside. The man sees traffic speeding on this road, where the speed limit is 70. “It will be a reduction in the enjoyment of living.”
On a whim, the man, who wishes to remain anonymous, decided yesterday afternoon to erect a pole himself. He still had an old sewer pipe in the garden, on which he screwed a piece of wood with a stargazer lens. After he had parked his van briefly along the Rondweg, he placed the whole in the verge of the Rondweg with the help of a ground drill.
From a distance, the speed camera looks lifelike and it also has the desired effect for the installer. And something needed to be done, he says. “If someone keeps to the speed on this road, it’s an exception,” says the man. According to him, motorists normally drive an average of 100 kilometers per hour on the road. “It just became an annoyance. Everyone complains about it.”
