Emmenaar in prison for six months for acts of violence against ex-girlfriend and police officers

A 30-year-old man from Emmen has been sentenced to six months in prison for committing violence against police officers, assaulting his ex and vandalism.

Former partners of the Emmenaar reported to the police in 2019. They reported attempted murder and rape. Both points were not proven.

Rape could not be determined with certainty because the women were not forced. The man was therefore acquitted on this point. There is also insufficient evidence for attempted murder. The judge said the declarations rattled on several counts.

The judge did find evidence that a woman had been scratched in the neck and body and stabbed with a knife. The court held that this constituted abuse. In addition, the Emmenaar destroyed a door of the home of one of his ex-partners.

The man violently resisted his arrest and threatened and insulted the officers. The judge mainly blamed the man for attacking his ex in her home, where she should feel safe. Then, in prison, the resident of Emmen threatened the woman by telephone.

The Public Prosecution Service (OM) demanded another three years in prison and TBS with compulsory treatment against the man. Due to a number of acquittals, the sentence is considerably less.
