A 29-year-old man from Emmen has to go to prison for 16 years. He was ordered by the court to try to kill a woman. The client, a 40-year-old man from Druten, has to go to prison for 18 years.
The man from Druten led a double life for years and had two relationships. He let the Emmenaar make an attempt to murder his wife.
The perpetrator was arrested a day later in Emmen. The victim’s husband is said to have given the man 50,000 euros for the murder attempt. According to the court, it is not clear why the Drutenaar wanted his wife dead.
De Drutenaar had two relationships at the same time. He was in the process of buying a house with his children’s mother. At the same time, he was married to the woman he wanted murdered. He also wanted to buy a house with her worth a million euros.
“It is clear that the man had maneuvered himself into an awkward position,” the court said. “He wanted to make a lot of money quickly in all kinds of criminal ways. He didn’t care about others at all, not even about his own wife, whom he even wanted to have killed.” The court therefore finds a ‘substantial prison sentence’ more than justified.
The man from Emmen is also responsible for eight fires in the Geldermalsen area. De Drutenaar ordered at least two of those fires. The Emmenaar would receive 150,000 euros for this. According to the court, it has not been proven that the Drutenaar also ordered the other fires. One of the two fires was in the business premises of the man from Druten. That business building was set on fire on March 27, 2022.
The idea was that the authorities would suspect that a pyromaniac was active and that it was therefore not suspicious that this particular building went up in flames. De Drutenaar counted on a million euros in insurance money. The insurance wouldn’t pay it. Once in the cell, that man also ordered arson to a fellow detainee. He then set fire to a former employee of the man from Druten.
According to the court, the resident of Emmen wanted to ‘earn money quickly’ and therefore committed his crimes. The court also finds a long sentence the best option for him. Both gentlemen must pay compensation to the victims of the fires. The victim of the murder attempt also wanted compensation, but remarkably enough only from the man from Emmen, not from the client. The court thinks differently about this and that is why both gentlemen together have to pay a total of 41,000 to the victim.
Furthermore, the man from Druten also has forgery on his conscience. He had lost his driver’s license because he was suspected of speeding. He wanted compensation from the state, because he would have missed out on a contract for his company as a result. The man substantiated this with an e-mail that he himself turned out to have forged.
