Emmen is big enough for your own party on Liberation Day

Despite the rain, the Concert For Kids part of the Liberation Day party in Emmen resulted in an almost half-filled Stadsfloor.

“Visitors can take shelter with us in the parking garages under the site,” says Jeffrey Mol of the Liberation Festival in Emmen. “In addition, people can go into the adjacent catering industry. But now the weather is almost dry again, our program does not have to be interrupted.”

Up to now, Emmen has not had quite the same amount of water as the festivals in Assen, Groningen and Zwolle.

While Assen faithfully welcomes thousands of visitors to the Drenthe Liberation Festival every year, little or nothing has happened in Emmen on May 5 for years. Partygoers from the region often disappear to Assen, Zwolle or Groningen that day to celebrate freedom. So something had to be done in Emmen as well.

Mol: “Emmen and the outer villages together have a hundred thousand inhabitants. Large enough to organize something here as well. And not every resident of our municipality has the opportunity to go to the festival in Assen or Groningen.”

At an official Liberation Festival such as in Assen, there is always attention why we celebrate freedom on May 5th. Not specifically in Emmen. But Mol doesn’t care, everyone really knows why they are on the city floor today. There are now about 1500 visitors.

Liberation Party Emmen in Emmen will be held on the City Floor in front of the Atlas Theater. ABBA tribute Abba Fever is currently playing, followed by another Andre Hazes Tribute, Snollebollekes and rapper Boef later tonight.
