Emmen is allocating 170,000 euros for sports halls and swimming pools

The municipality of Emmen has more than 170,000 euros on the shelf to tackle the overdue maintenance of six sports facilities. It concerns four outdoor swimming pools and two sports halls in Nieuw-Weerdinge, Emmer-Compascuum, Erica and Weiteveen. The money comes from the so-called bottleneck fund, intended for necessary refurbishments.

Most of the pot goes to Erica. In total, a ton will be allocated for a new coating for the swimming pool and for making the roof of the sports hall more sustainable. The roof of the hall was damaged during a storm.

An amount of 25,000 euros is available for Nieuw-Weerdinge for the purchase of a new central heating boiler and 38 solar panels for the sports hall. Five thousand euros will go to the local swimming pool De Wieke for the inspection and repair of several circulation pumps and replacement of a pump.

The lifeguard tower and the fuse box of the bath in Emmer-Compascuum must be replaced. An amount of 22,500 euros is available for this. The slide and the diving tower are also being repaired from that money.

Swimming pool De Wiekslag in Weiteveen benefits from renewing filters and sanitary facilities. In addition, the bottom of the bath and the gutters require attention. These shortcomings should be remedied with a subsidy of 23,000 euros.

According to alderman Pascal Schrik, the foundations that manage these sports halls and swimming pools do not always have the money to pay for maintenance themselves. “That is why we are happy to contribute from the bottleneck pool, so that the accommodations remain good. It enables residents to exercise or swim close to home.”
