VVD: Living in the outskirts and selling properties?
At the end of last year, the VVD steered towards a reassessment of the Rensenpark with a council-wide motion. Much needed, according to councilor Marcel Meijer. “The vision of five years ago did not work. There were no investors who wanted to invest money in the park. They run into too many rules and conditions. As a result, the ball falls to the municipality to invest on a large scale.” Not realistic, says Meijer. “We don’t even have money for the management of the park at the moment.”
It’s an idea to sell the existing buildings to lower the bar for investors, he suggests.
Don’t build up
Time to fine-tune the vision for the Rensenpark with both feet on the ground, the VVD thinks. Meijer sees an opportunity to allow limited forms of housing in the edges of the park. “That way we generate money for park maintenance.” He emphasizes that it is absolutely not the intention to completely build the park. “What comes next must also stand out a bit architecturally and visually.”
dichotomy
Meijer also noticed the division about the use of the park. “One wants rest and a nice walk. The other is buzzing and activities. At the moment that clashes with each other. We have to think again about a degree of balance that everyone can agree with.”
